Shortly after 10 p.m. last (Mon) night, fire fighters responded to a dumpster fire at the Lapwai Elementary School.

Fireworks are believed to have been the cause. Fortunately, no one was injured and no buildings were damaged but there is still a lesson to be learned from this. All fireworks should be cold to the touch before being deposited into a dumpster or garbage can.
As the 4th of July approaches everyone is urged to use caution with fireworks as it’s drier than normal this year and fireworks can start fires very quickly if not handled and disposed of properly.
