Troopers want you to watch your back as you’re traveling this summer. There’s a scam happening on freeways and gas stations. The Idaho State Police says scammers are pretending to be stranded motorists, claiming their credit cards don’t work. They may also say they need gas or they’re just desperate for help. Often they try to sell you what appears to be valuable jewelry or other stuff in exchange for quick cash. Troopers say the jewelry is fake and they’re trying to scam you.
The ISP says if you see someone who appears stranded and is asking for money, you should call 911 or *ISP (*477).
