Idaho Gas Prices Holding Steady

As Idaho temperatures rise, gas prices have been slow to follow – at least, for now.

According to the American Automobile Association, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.29, which is about a penny and a half less than a week ago and 35 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $3.12 per gallon, which is also a penny and a half less than a week ago, and 32 cents less than a year ago. Idaho has moved up in the rankings to 8th in the U.S. for the most expensive fuel.

According to the Energy Information Administration’s most recent report, U.S. gasoline stocks

increased by more than 5 million barrels while fuel demand slipped by 1 million barrels per day. Domestic refinery production also increased to more than 93% of capacity. AAA says those factors have contributed to lower pump prices.

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $65 per barrel,

which is $3 more than a month ago, but $13 less than a year ago.

While the news is good, AAA-Idaho’s Matthew Conde warns that filling up is likely to become a more expensive proposition with kids out of school and summer vacations in full swing and the Independence Day holiday just around the corner.

Of Idaho’s largest cities, Boise has the state’s lowest average price for a gallon of regular at $3.20, while motorists in Lewiston are paying the highest average price in Idaho at $3.33.
