Three fire departments teamed up to quickly extinguish a grass fire that was threatening a neighborhood this afternoon.
Firefighters from Asotin County Fire District #1, City of Asotin, and City of Clarkston worked to contain the blaze that started just after 2pm.
A release from the ACFD says it started when a resident was burning yard waste and a wind came up. That’s when he lost control of it.
Pulling hoses and digging ground in a steep valley, they had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. They stayed about two hours to make sure it didn’t flare up again.
Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin says with the warmer temperatures, the low, flashy fuels are dying rapidly. He warns people to use extreme caution if you’re working near dry grass.
It burned about 2 acres. There were no injuries reported and no homes damaged in the blaze.
