The Pine Creek Community Restoration Long Term Recovery Organization (LTRO) and the Town of Malden will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed community building, which houses the food bank, library, and community center.  Grant funding from  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Whitman County, and the generosity of an anonymous donor was used to replace the original buildings that were lost during the Babb Road Fire in 2020. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29th at 119 W Broadway Avenue in Malden, Washington. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

“This event marks an important milestone in the ongoing revitalization of our town,” says Chandelle Frick, Director of the Pine Creek Community Restoration LTRO. “ We are especially excited about the walk-in coolers and freezers for the food bank, the high-speed fiber access in the library, and the event space where large groups can gather.”

The new facility also features an outdoor amphitheater with seating for 50, providing an open-air venue for performances, meetings, and celebrations.

Visitors to Malden can tour the new Malden Palouse-to-Cascades Trailhead, which is part of the Great American Rail-Trailthat traverses the country, from Washington D.C. to La Push, WA. They can also see the new playground equipment that was recently installed.
