U.S. Senators Jim Risch along with one other Republican and two Democrats introduced a piece of legislation that would create artificial intelligence standards for performance, reliability, security, privacy, and bias.
A press release from Risch’s office says The Testing and Evaluation Systems for Trusted Artificial Intelligence (TEST AI) Act would drive innovation, protect national security, and build trust in these technologies.
Risch said it’s important because “While AI offers an opportunity to revolutionize American research and Innovation, we must be cognizant of bad actors and potential threats to privacy and national security.”
The bill pushes to use the facilities at The Idaho National Labratory. Risch says the Idaho Falls-based facility is a good fit because it’s already a leader in AI, national security, and cybersecurity.
