Lewis-Clark State College and Idaho State University (ISU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to offer a program where students can complete a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) in five years.
The MOU, which will be in effect for five years, will provide students with an expedited process through both degrees, which traditionally takes six years to complete.
Students will start their education at LC State, where they will study exercise science for three years, before transferring to ISU to finish their bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This agreement will allow students to finish all general education, lower-level degree specific classes, and a number of upper-division degree specific courses at LC State before transferring to ISU.
Students must declare their intent to pursue the 3+2 program in writing to both LC State and ISU’s MSAT program director during the spring semester of their sophomore year. They will then complete the program application by Jan. 15 of their junior year.
When applying for the MSAT graduate degree, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their final 60 credits, a current CPR/AED for healthcare provider certification, two professional recommendations, a personal statement describing professional goals and interest in athletic training, and acceptance into ISU’s graduate school.
The MOU continues a long history of healthcare education collaboration between the two schools.

- December 2023 – A partnership expanding the ISU physician assistant program to north Idaho is created.
- April 2024 – An MOU is signed to create a pathway for students seeking a master’s in occupational therapy at ISU.
- October 2024 – An MOU is signed to address the critical shortage of paramedics in rural Idaho.
