The biggest grant going to the University of Idaho ended this week. The University released the information yesterday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture ended the grant of nearly $59-million.

It’s the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities program that will cut the funds to U of I’s Innovative Agriculture and Marketing Partnership project.

Under the new Department of Ag rules, at least 65-percent of funds must go directly to producers. In the U of I program, more than 50% is going to producers, but a press release says the rest, excluding direct administrative costs, was going to provide technical and marketing services to those producers, saving them the cost of contracting those services independently.

U of I has until June 20th to make adjustments and resubmit a proposal to meet the new criteria.
