The U.S. Forest Service is planning prescribed burns to clean out the Umatilla, Wallowa-Whitman, and Malheur National Forests.
The closest burn is planned west of Anatone. Most of the burns will be south of the border in Oregon.
The Forest Service warns if you encounter smoke across the road while burns are ongoing, be sure to slow down. They also assure residents that if weather conditions aren’t right, they won’t start a fire.
There’s no date set yet for many of the burns, but when they are underway, the US Forest Service map will be updated. We have set up a link to that map here.
