According to a press release, the purpose of the awards is to honor the many acts of kindness that individuals, families, service groups and organizations perform in communities across the state of Washington. The awards recognize volunteer activities performed in 2025.

A total of 18 awards were given to individuals, groups and organizations statewide. Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington received an award for outstanding volunteer group or program and Stines received an individual award.

The Girl Scouts of Clarkston Service Unit are making a meaningful impact– one box of cookies at a time. The service unit, made up of approximately 130 Girl Scouts, have used their annual cookie fundraiser to give deployed U.S. Military troops a taste of home. During their fundraiser, they give patrons the option of purchasing an extra box of cookies to send to service members. In 2024 they successfully donated 3,500 boxes of cookies to U.S. military personnel stationed in various locations.

Stines, a retired heavy equipment operator in his 80s, volunteers as a Senior Companion through the Washington-Idaho Volunteer Center. Stines visits eight senior clients in the Clarkston area providing friendship, transportation and practical assistance, who otherwise have little or no support systems. In 2024, Stines logged 1,374 hours of service.
