The Idaho State Police has announced Mike Mooney’s promotion from Lieutenant to Captain and will oversee north central Idaho’s District 2 operations. Captain Mooney succeeds Captain Rich Adamson, who retires after a distinguished law enforcement career.
Captain Mooney brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with 25 years in law enforcement.
Mooney’s career began with the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police Department, followed by service with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon. In October 2001, he joined ISP, where he’s built an exceptional career. After graduating from the ISP Advanced Training Academy, Mooney served as a Patrol Trooper in District 1 for three years before transferring to District 2 in Lewiston. He has spent 15 years in Lewiston working in investigations, rising through the ranks as a detective, Detective Sergeant, and Investigations Lieutenant—a position he has held since 2019. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the American Military University in 2022.
