The Idaho Board of Canvassers including Secretary of State Phil McGrane, state Controller Brandon Woolf, and state Treasurer Julie Ellsworth, canvassed and certified the results of the General Election yesterday (Tue) at the Idaho State Capitol in Boise. The Board also heard a report on the recent post-election audits conducted in eight randomly selected counties following the election.
As established in Idaho Statute, the Board of Canvassers convenes to certify results for federal, state, and district offices. The purpose of the canvass is to certify the results of the General Election as official.
Election data from the canvass showed a record number of Idahoans voted in the General Election, with 917,469 votes cast. Turnout was 77.8% of registered voters, and 121,015 voters utilized same-day registration at the polls or early voting. Voter turnout data by county along with the canvas report is available on VoteIdaho.gov.
According to a news release from the Secretary of State’s Office, the General Post-Election Audit confirmed the reliability of the voting systems across eight audited counties in Idaho. It identified minor discrepancies in the hand counts compared to the official county results, mainly attributed to human error and procedural issues. The post-election audits were conducted in Bear Lake, Bingham, Clearwater, Custer, Elmore, Jerome, Latah, and Minidoka counties from November 16 to November 21. Audit teams, consisting of Secretary of State staff and honors accounting students from Boise State University conducted a hand count of the results in precincts and ballot batches selected randomly by the Board of Canvassers before the audits.
