The Lewiston Police Department is partnering with the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and law enforcement agencies across Idaho, to make sure everyone stays safe on the roads during the busy Thanksgiving travel period.
Now through Saturday, November 30, Officers will join a statewide effort, issuing citations to those not wearing their seat belt and educating Idahoans on the importance of all drivers
and passengers buckling up whether driving across the state or just across town. It’s also important that young kids be in the correct car seats too.
According to the Office of Highway Safety data, 86% of Idahoans are making the safe choice to wear their seat belt.
Buckling up is the easiest thing vehicle occupants can do to protect themselves during a crash. It increases the odds of surviving a crash by 50%.
In 2023, 58% of the occupants in cars, pickups, SUVs, and vans killed in Idaho crashes were not wearing a seat belt.
