The man accused of killing a friend in Ahsahka last January has been sentenced to 30 years to Life in prison.

44-year-old James Martson, who was high on meth at the time, brutally killed Ronnie Cheney last January in Marston’s trailer after reportedly hearing voices that told him Cheney needed to die. Cheney died of multiple stab wounds and a deep cut to his throat. At the time of the attack, Martson was on parole for a felony domestic battery conviction in 2016.

Along with the prison sentence, Martson was also given a $5,000 civil penalty and given credit for the nearly 10 months he’s already spent behind bars.
