Over the last several weeks, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in scam calls where callers are claiming to be deputies from the sheriff’s office.
According to a Facebook post, the scammers are using technology that shows their phone number as that of the sheriff’s office and the callers claim citizens have warrants and are asking them to pay in order to clear the warrant. The callers are also telling people they have violated various court orders and haven’t shown up for jury duty and are asking for money to not be found in violation.
The Latah County Sheriff’s Office will never call people asking for money to clear a warrant or for any court orders or jury duty.
If you are unsure if you are talking to an actual deputy from the Latah County Sheriff’s Office or a scammer, get the deputies name and call the sheriff’s office directly at 208-882-2216 to speak with a dispatcher.
