LEWISTON, ID – If you are planning on using 21st Street between 7th Avenue and Nez Perce Grade for the next few weeks, be aware that the City of Lewiston has contracted with VSS International to complete a roadway preservation project. A full reconstruction of 21st Street is necessary, but until funding can be obtained, the City proceeded with this preservation project to provide a temporary (10-year) solution.

From the City of Lewiston:

Phase I-A was completed in Fall 2023.

Phase I-B included pedestrian ramp construction and sidewalk infill. This phase began in March and was completed in May.

Phase II is the final phase of this project and will follow the planned schedule below:

  • Starting Tuesday, May 28th – Full width micromill will occur during the daytime with double lane closures. Intersections and driveways will remain accessible with intermittent closures
  • Starting Sunday, June 2nd – Fiberseal work will be completed at night between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The public can expect double lane closures on 21st Street, limited driveway access, and intersection closures during this night work. Signalized intersections will be open with intermittent 30-minute closures.
  • Starting Monday, June 10th – Final pavement marking and striping will require single lane closures with intermittent driveway access and intersection closures. More information on time of day this work will take place will be provided in updates as the final phase progresses.
As with all construction, unforeseen conditions could alter schedules. If that happens, we ask for your cooperation and patience.

Please see the Micromilling Schedule Map for the planned lane closures between May 28th and May 31st, attached.
