LC State Women’s Golf Improves in Second Round of CCC Championships

The Lewis-Clark State Women’s Golf team shot the second-best team round of the day and closed in on Oregon Tech for second place after the second round of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Loomis Trail Golf Club on Tuesday.

“The women had a great comeback today,” coach Zach Anderson said. “20 shots better than yesterday and only seven shots off No. 1 British Columbia.”

The Warriors posted a second-round team score of 310 and gained nine strokes on No. 19 Oregon Tech for second place. After the first two rounds, LC State is at 640, now only 10 strokes behind the Owls. No. 1 British Columbia extended its lead after a second round of 303 and is sitting in first place with a team score of 602, a 28-stroke advantage.

Deana Caruso improved by one stroke and shot a 6-over, 78 in the second round. The senior maintained a top-10 position in a tie for eighth. Dallas Shockey moved into the top-10 with a round of 7-over, 79 and is in a tie for 10th.

Kyla Currie had the best round of any Warrior in the tournament with a 3-over, 75. The senior recorded birdies on Nos. 13, 14 and 18 and carded a round that was 13 strokes better than Monday.

Isabella Barquet and Natalia Gomez finished the second round in the top 20. Barquet shot a second round of 83 and is in 16th place. Gomez improved by 16 strokes on Tuesday and is in a tie for 18th.

“It was great to see them find some good breaks and lower the scores,” Anderson said. “Proud of their resilience. Excited to see how we end it tomorrow.”
