Nanny Arrested for Death of 4-Month-Old in Airway Heights

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, WA – The Airway Heights Police Department arrested a nanny for the death of a 4-month-old baby she was taking care of in November. Officials say 59-year-old Sharon J. L. Arger was arrested today for Second-Degree Murder.

Police responded to a call of an unconscious male infant on November 2nd. The boy was reportedly rushed to the hospital and put on life support until he passed away six days later.

On November 2, 2023, officers were dispatched to a call of an unconscious infant at a residence in Airway Heights. The infant, who was four months old, was being watched by his nanny, 59-year-old Sharon J. Arger, at the time.

Airway Heights Officers, Airway Heights Fire Medics and AMR staff worked tirelessly providing lifesaving measures on the infant, before he was rushed by ambulance to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Airway Heights Officers escorted the ambulance to the hospital, while officers from the Kalispel Tribal Police Department, Spokane Police Department, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington State Patrol expedited the transport by blocking off all intersections along the way.

The infant remained on life support until November 8, 2023, at which point he tragically he passed away.

Airway Heights Police Lead Detective Erin Johnson worked on this investigation for nearly five months, in collaboration with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Spokane County Forensics Unit, Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.

After an extensive examination by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office and their colleagues, the infant’s death was ruled a homicide on March 19, 2024.

A warrant was issued for Arger’s arrest, and on March 28, 2024, she was taken into custody without incident. Arger was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Murder 2nd Degree.
