The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people on board a plane that crashed Saturday into the Snake River.

The pilot was identified as 51-year-old Brandon Peterson of Nampa and the passenger has been identified as 47-year-old Kristen Blackburn, of Lewiston.

The single-engine plane apparently clipped a power line and then crashed into the river near the 35000 block of Snake River Road south of Asotin. Officials say both occupants were able to get out of the plane on their own and were then rescued by nearby boaters who witnessed the crash. According to the Lewiston Tribune, emergency resonders say the two suffered serious, but non-life-threating injuries and that if the boaters hadn’t been nearby, the two may not have made it to shore.

Peterson and Blackburn were reportedly both listed in fair condition at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
