After missing the first few weeks of the season due to injury, Beatriz Lambru solidified her return with an impressive singles victory against NCAA Division I Idaho’s No. 2 singles player. Though LC State fell 6-1, the Warrior women left with a sense of accomplishment behind Lambru’s win.
Lambru picked up the lone victory for LC State in the match by a final score of 6-4, 6-3. She defeated her opponent in straight sets for the first individual win over a Vandal in recent memory.
“Beatriz carried a lot of momentum from last weekend into tonight,” coach Ryan LaPlante said. “She was relentless with getting every ball back and forcing her opponent to earn every point against her. Her opponent hit a lot of winners against her and she showed much great resiliency and mental toughness.”
Idaho made quick work of LC State in double action. The Vandals swept the top two pairings, while Anne Mathema and Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva earned three game in their 6-3 loss in No. 3 doubles.
“The women still have much to work on,” LaPlante added. “We’ve got to be tougher, work harder, and train the desire to want it more. I’m excited to see how the women respond against Montana State this Saturday.”
