A seven-run effort by the No. 3 LC State offense did enough to support a bullpen-thrown game on Sunday to help the Warriors complete the four-game non-conference sweep of (RV) UBC. LC State capped the weekend with a 7-6 victory.
“Good weekend for Warrior Baseball,” Head Coach Jake Taylor said. “We had huge contributions from each member of our team that helped lead us to the four-game sweep.”
The Warriors wrap up the first home weekend with a 9-3 record on the season. LC State tallied 10 home runs in the series and slugged .632 as a team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Thunderbirds took their first lead of the series with two runs in each of the first two innings. Dallas McGill took over on the mound in the top of the second and got the Warriors out a jam.
LC State took control in the home half of the inning and batted around with a six-run frame. Dominic Signorelli walked to lead off and Jake Gish homered to left to cut the deficit in half. Bulla Ephan and Brandon Cabrera were each hit by a pitch to bookend a base hit by Ike George for a bases-loaded situation. Carter Booth gave the Warriors the lead with one swing on a ball crushed to left for a grand slam.
LC State led 6-4 after two innings.
Ephan hit the first home run of his career to start the bottom of the third to grow the advantage to 7-4.
Jadon Williamson came out of the bullpen and worked around two hit batters. The LC State defense turned a 3-6-3 double play behind Williamson to keep UBC off the board in the fourth.
The fifth and sixth passed without any scoring and the Thunderbirds made it a one-run game with runs in the seventh and eighth to bring the score to 7-6.
Zachary Ediger came in to pitch in the ninth and picked up a pair of strikeouts in a quick 1-2-3 inning.
Booth led the team with four RBI on his grand slam and Gish drove in two. Both had two hits.
McGill earned the win after throwing 1.1 innings early in the contest. He did not allow a hit. Williamson had the longest outing at two innings and struck out three. Jake Green, Jantzen Lucas, Brennen Farber and Ediger each threw a frame and Ediger earned his first save.
UP NEXT
The Warriors travel to Eugene next weekend for a four-game non-conference set at Bushnell. The series is schedule for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
