CLARKSTON, WA – A former inmate of the Asotin County Jail has been arrested and charged with Forgery after he allegedly changed the amount of a check he had received from the jail. Monte Dale Clark, 37, reportedly was reimbursed his “balance on release” from jail for $19.75 on September 17, 2023, but when an official was reconciling the bank account for October, they noticed that the check was written for $119.75. That check cleared the bank on October 23rd.

According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, the staff member pulled up photos of the check and the printed font on the check was “different” from all the other checks.

“At looking at the check it does appear several part[s] of the check have been copied and pasted and the font of the check appears total[ly] different from the check system we use,” a jail staff member wrote in the document.

Clark was arrested on Monday and bond was set at $25,000.
