A fire sprinkler pipe burst Sunday at the Student Union Building at Lewis-Clark State College because of the freezing temperatures.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded and were informed by Lewis-Clark State security that there was water flowing from the building. Crews identified a water pipe in the attic had burst because of the freezing temperatures.

The sprinkler system was shut off and maintenance workers from the college were called to the scene. Several inches of water were on the upper floor near the radio station.

Damage estimates to the building and other contents have not been determined and will take time to determine.
