BOISE, ID – With the drop of the gavel, the 2024 session of the Idaho State Legislature got underway today. A short time later, Governor Brad Little delivered his State of the State and Budget Address.

Little told the combined gathering of the House and Senate and other dignitaries that the state has surged ahead of the “competition” in several areas.

Little says looking ahead, they have a plan to keep Idaho strong.

Little says the state legislature needs to invest in the matters most pressing for the state – particularly transportation needs. The Idaho Works plan requires another $50 million ongoing to bond for an additional $800 million in new transportation infrastructure so they can save Idahoans precious time on the road.

Little adds that the legislature has budgeted $1 billion to improve water quality and quantity in recent years, and the Idaho Works plan also calls for the continued expansion of water infrastructure to ensure a stable water supply during both the good and bad years.

To help keep the state’s children well, Idaho Works doubles the funding for school advisors.

“These are the professionals on the front lines in talking to students about their futures as well as their current personal struggles,” Little says. “IDAHO WORKS also proposes a new Statewide Student Behavioral Health Initiative for additional suicide prevention.”
