CLARKSTON, WA – Two people were arrested recently in connection with four incidents involving theft of merchandise from the Clarkston Walmart. Court records say that 41-year-old Ladonna Peterson was booked into the Asotin County Jail on Friday and 57-year-old Stephen Brazwell was transported to the jail on Sunday after being arrested at his Clarkston residence.
Peterson has been charged with four counts of 2nd-Degree Burglary, Organized Retail Theft, two counts of 2nd-Degree Theft, and two counts of 3rd-Degree Theft, and Resisting Arrest; Brazwell was booked into jail on charges of Organized Retail Theft, two counts of 2nd-Degree Theft, and two counts of 3rd-Degree Theft.
According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, the couple worked together over the last several months in order to steal at least $2,400 of merchandise from the store.
“On 6/23 Ladonna attempted to take $1,058.97 of merchandise before being stopped by Loss Prevention. On September 21st Ladonna intentionally left [Walmart] with $142.49 worth of merchandise without attempting to pay. On 10/19 Ladonna intentionally left the store with a cart full of items less than $750. [On] 10/20 Ladonna intentionally left the store with items greater than $750 but less than $5,000,” according to the affidavit. The total for the most recent incident was approximately $1,091.88, officials say.
Peterson attempted to flee Walmart after being detained on Friday, court records say. She was quickly apprehended but police say she actively resisted them.
“Even now on the ground she continued to yell that she wasn’t doing anything even though she was still attempting to pull her arms away from us,” the affidavit says.
Meanwhile, Brazwell was arrested without incident on Sunday. Police say he allegedly worked with her to commit at least four thefts.
“It is apparent over the course of these [four] incidents that Stephen primarily acts as a lookout and driver,” the affidavit says. “Ladonna is the person in charge of physically stealing all of the items from [the store].”
The document adds that Brazwell also attempted to run interference for Peterson during one of the incidents by seeking out the Walmart Loss Prevention officer in order to distract him.
