For the second straight year, Lewis-Clark State College’s online social work degree is ranked No. 2 in the United State for affordability by Best-Universities.net, a leading higher education research organization.
Best-Universities.net collects data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics survey and then ranks the most affordable social work degree programs based on average net price, being regionally or nationally accredited, and offering at least one fully online social work degree.
Trailing only Eastern New Mexico University in the 2024 Most Affordable Online Social Work Degree programs category, LC State is honored by Best-Universities.net for “its diverse spectrum of subjects offered online for social work, ranging from the intricacies of social welfare policy to the nuances of human behavior within the social environment. Students are actively engaged in the art of social work practice and embark on transformative field education experiences. This journey also offers students a chance to select electives tailored to their interests, delving into specialized areas like child welfare, gerontology, or mental health.”
LC State offers a 120-credit Bachelor of Social Work degree that includes internships in their local communities, research projects and student activities, both in a traditional in-class setting and a non-traditional online format. The online program utilizes technology to offer a variety of course formats (asynchronous online, weekly synchronous virtual remote, and weekend only synchronous virtual remote), allowing students to chart their educational journey on a flexible and adaptable schedule. Online students are expected to attend via a mixture of asynchronous online and synchronous virtual remote courses which allow students access to the same wealth of faculty expertise and resources as their on-campus counterparts.
Graduates are expected to practice from a set of ethical principles inherent in the social work profession, including the recognition that professional development is a lifelong learning process. Program graduates often find jobs working with children, families, the elderly, and underserved populations, including individuals with physical and mental disabilities, behavioral and mental health challenges, alcohol and drug addiction, and/or those who have experienced trauma in their life.
To be eligible for admission into the LC State’s Social Work program, students must complete 30 credits of general education coursework and obtain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
