On Monday evening, deputies and EMS Personnel from Fire District 1 responded to a report of a single vehicle fatality collision on Poplar St in Tekoa in Whitman County.

According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, based on initial information it is believed the driver, identified as 69-year-old Bruce Spencer of Plummer, was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving, colliding with a guardrail and subsequently rolling several times.

Spencer, who was the sole occupant, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle.

Witnesses on scene reported that Spencer may have been racing a motorcycle or have been involved in some sort of road-rage incident at the time of the accident. Investigators are still reviewing the information but have confirmed speed was a contributing factor.

Spencer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
