Elkhorn Fire Grows to Nearly 26,000 Acres

The Elkhorn Fire burning along the main Salmon River corridor on the both the Nez Perce-Clearwater and Payette National Forest and surrounding area is currently listed at nearly 26,000 acres with 40% containment.

Crews are continuing with mechanical line towards the Magruder Corridor, and are making good progress. Firefighters were placed back into Lantz Bar Saturday and are implementing structure protection by installing water systems and wrapping Forest Service infrastructure and facilities at the Arctic Lodge and The River of No Return Ranch areas.

Hot and dry conditions will continue for the next several days as a ridge of high pressure passes over with triple digit high temperatures expected along with afternoon humidity values of 10 to 20 percent.

Communication continues with rafters and boaters entering the river at Corn Creek and again at Hancock Rapids before entering the fire footprint along the river corridor.
