One person was killed following a collision last (Thur) night along U.S. Highway 95 north of Riggins.
According to Idaho State Police, a 1995 International tractor trailer pulling a car hauler trailer with 4 vehicles, driven by a 62 year-old Nezperce man, was traveling northbound on US95 at around 9:25 near milepost 211. A 54-year-old woman from Whitebird was traveling south in a 2022 Chevy Trax. ISP says the truck crossed the center line into the southbound lane and struck the Chevy head on.
The truck along with the trailer and cars caught fire while the Chevy traveled down a steep embankment and came to rest.
The driver of the truck was able to escape the vehicle and had minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy was transported via ground ambulance to an area hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.
The roadway was blocked for approximately 4 and a half hours.
The incident remains under investigation.
