MOSCOW, ID – Bryan Kohberger’s defense team claims to have evidence he was somewhere else at the time of the stabbing murders of four University of Idaho students in mid-November. They filed a Notice of Defendant’s Response to State’s Alibi Demand yesterday and in it, they said Kohberger intends to raise an alibi defense.

“Noteworthy is that “an alibi indicates a line of proof by which the defendant attempts to show that he could not have committed the crime of which he is accused because he was elsewhere at the time,” the documents says.

“Evidence corroborating Mr. Kohberger being at a location other than the King Road address will be disclosed pursuant to discovery and evidentiary rules as well as statutory requirements. It is anticipated this evidence may be offered by way of cross-examination of witnesses produced by the State as well as calling expert witnesses,” the Notice adds.
Kohberger’s trial on four murder charges is set for October 2nd in Latah County Second District Court. He was arrested at his parent’s home in Pennsylvania in late December after DNA found on a knife sheath left at the King Road home reportedly linked to him. Kohberger is accused of stabbing Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin in the off-campus home in the early morning hours of November 13th.
Late last month, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson filed a notice of the state’s intent to pursue the death penalty for Kohberger.
