Fifteen LC State Tennis student-athletes earned the title of ITA Scholar-Athletes, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday. Both Warrior teams earned ITA All-Academic Team accolades as well. The LC men finished the year with a 3.47 grade point average and the women maintained a 3.53.
“I always appreciate the amount of effort the student-athletes place on academics,” Head Coach Kai Fong said. “They always find a way to keep their grades up even during the competitive season. They prioritize their time to ensure a healthy balance between academics, sports and friends/fun. They should be proud of their accomplishments which will be good conversation pieces to share with their families”.
The LC State men had 10 individuals earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, led by seniors Thomas Schaap and Andy Wu. Sophomores Austin Swing, Cornelius Sia, Cade Edwards and Alvaro Camino each won the award, as did freshmen Declan Townsend, Malte Sommer, Juan Naranjo and Dan Felker.
On the women’s side, the Warriors were represented by five individuals. Sophomores Lina Boylan, Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva and Beatriz Lambru earned the accolade, along with freshmen Yelena Kim and Ines Steeman.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. To be an ITA All-Academic Team, a program must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
