Investigators believe juveniles lighting fireworks may have been the cause of a fire that destroyed two homes in Lapwai Friday.

The Lewiston Tribune reports Lapwai Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bill Skiles said it appears the fire started in a garage and spread to one house and then the other. The houses were destroyed but there were no serious injuries.

Skiles said there are eye witnesses and video accounts of how the fire got started. The investigation is ongoing and is now being conducted by Nez Perce Tribal Police. Any potential charges will be determined by prosecutors.

Alternate housing for the displaced families is being sought and the Nez Perce Tribe has offered temporary housing at the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge east of Lewiston.
