SPOKANE, WA – KXLY – The man arrested for making a threat that led to a diverted Alaska Airlines flight to Spokane Wednesday told a flight attendant there was a bomb on the plane and that he was carrying a detonator, according to court documents filed this morning. KXLY reports that Brandon L. Scott reportedly told investigators he was hoping the flight would be diverted because he was trying to avoid being killed by a drug cartel.
Scott was arrested on the tarmac yesterday evening and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a U.S. Marshals hold. He is charged with False Information and Hoaxes.
From KXLY:
According to investigators, Scott passed a note to a flight attendant that was written on a receipt.
It said “There is a bomb on the plane. This is not a joke. Several pounds of homemade explosives are in my carry on bag. I have a detonator with me. Handle this matter carefully and exactly how I say, otherwise I will detonate the explosives and kill everyone on board.”
The note went on for several more paragraphs, including saying specifically that “if the plane lands in Seattle, I will kill everyone on board.”
The note concluded “just get this plane rerouted. Failure to comply will cost the lives of everyone on this plane.”
The flight attendant contacted the pilot, who advised air traffic control and the flight was diverted to Spokane.
