Westmont Claims First Ever NAIA Baseball Championship

A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 8th inning propelled Westmont College of California to it’s first ever NAIA national title with a 7-6 win over Lewis-Clark State in the championship game of the Avista NAIA World Series.

Brady Renck had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs for Westmont in the win.

Gabe Arteaga picked up the victory in relief – pitching two and one third innings. The righthander allowed just two hits and no runs with 2 strikeouts.

Charlie Updegrave hit a three-run homer for LC State and Isaiah Thomas also went deep in the loss.

LC was unable to overcome the combination of five errors and 12 runners left on base.

Westmont ends it’s season with the national title and a 48-9 record.

LC finishes the year with a second straight runner-up finish and a record of 37-18.
