MOSCOW, ID – A fire at the Oxford House in Moscow in March has been determined to be suspicious in nature. Moscow Fire Chief Brian Nickerson says after many hours of interviews and a review of relevant information, the investigation will remain open pending further information being provided. The home is owned by Latah Recovery Center and is a sober living community.

The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department and Moscow Police Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 800 block of Bitterroot Street at around 2:20 a.m. on March 19th. Upon arriving on the scene fire personnel encountered heavy fire conditions in the front portion of the building with flames extending through the front roof area. Fire personnel began fire suppression efforts upon arrival.

“All occupants were already evacuated. Mutual Aid was requested from Pullman Fire Department for an engine for personnel. The fire was confined to
the building of origin. Once the fire department extinguished the fire the Moscow Fire Department Fire Marshal initiated the fire investigation into the origin and cause of the fire,” a previous press release says.

No injuries were reported. There were six people in the building at the time of the fire. The American Red Cross responded to assist the victims.

The building sustained significant fire damage in a portion of the building and heavy smoke damage throughout the remainder of the building.

Anyone who has information about the fire is encouraged to contact the Moscow Police Department at 208-882-COPS or the Moscow Fire Department at 208-882-2831.
