Tuition Increases Approved for Idaho’s Higher Education Institutions

For the first time since 2019, the Idaho State Board of Education has approved tuition increases at all state public colleges and universities.

According to KXLY, tuition and fees for the 2023-24 school year will increase by five percent at the University of Idaho, Boise State University and Idaho State University, while Lewis-Clark State will see it’s tuition and fees jump by 5.6 percent.

At the University of Idaho, the increase is up $420 to $8,816. At Boise State, the increase is $418 to $8,782; At Idaho State, the increase is $398 to $8,356; and Lewis-Clark State will pass on an increase of $392 to $7,388.

The four colleges cited inflation, increased utility costs, employee merit pay increases and higher health insurance premiums as the reasons for the increase in tuition.

Since Fall 2020, the Idaho State Board of Education says the average cost of tuition and fees at the four-year institutions has gone down 10%.

The Board also approved merit pay increases for the presidents of each college. University of Idaho President Scott Green salary will increase to $465,235, Boise State University President Marlene Tromp will see her salary grow to- $459,666, Idaho State University President Kevin Satterlee’s salary will bump up to $441,000, and Lewis-Clark State President Cynthia Pemberton’s pay will bump to $288,750 annually.
