Warrior Track and Field Teams Both Ranked 7 in National Rating Index

Both LC State Track and Field teams checked in at No. 7 in the first edition of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Outdoor Track and Field Rating Index, released by the coaching organization on Wednesday. Both teams are the second-highest rated in the Cascade Conference behind UBC.

No. 7 LC State Men’s Track & Field

The Warrior men checked in at No. 7 in the first rating index of the outdoor season, led by Christian Bothwell’s 6,322-point mark in the decathlon. He currently leads the NAIA in 10-event multi. Justin Krabbenhoft’s 5,701-point total in the decathlon ranks third currently.

Ike Hopper hit the B standard in the 400m hurdles (53.90) and ranks sixth in the NAIA, and London Kirk earned an A mark in the 400m (47.97) for which he ranks eighth nationally.

Though not qualified in the event yet, Carter Gordon has the 13th-best 800m time so far this season at 1:54.79. Connor Turpin is ninth in the 10,000m (32:01.10) and Brycen Brown is seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:38.80). The men’s 4x800m relay team of Cooper Carlson, Gordon, Conner May and Kobe Wessels ranks fourth after their 7:53.34 run at the Bucs Scoring Invite.

In field events, Nik Bertling sits inside the NAIA’s top 10 at No. 9 in the pole vault with a height of 4.61m.

 

No.7 LC State Women’s Track & Field

Madigan Kelly currently holds the second-fastest time in the NAIA in the 100m hurdles (14.22). The mark is the only automatic-qualifying standard for LC State so far this season, but many are not far off.

Sara Hathaway is currently ranked third in the NAIA in the heptathlon with her 3,986-point win at the Bucs Scoring Invite. Ashley Britt has a B standard in the 400m hurdles and is ranked sixth in the nation with a time of 1:04.41. Hathaway is also in the top 15 of the 400m hurdles at No. 13 (1:06.29).

Geraldin Correa is not far off a qualifying time in the 800m. She is ranked fifth with her time of 2:16.39. Brooklyn Shell is 12th in the 1,500m (4:45.93) and Emily Collins is 14th in the 400m (58.12). Newcomer Chloe Overberg is ranked 11th in the 10,000m with a time of 39:59.68.

In field events, Cynthia Smith ranks sixth in the NAIA in the pole vault (3.45m). Two-time All-American Kea Stieglitz is currently 13th in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.90m.
