CLARKSTON, WA – Three open house-style information fairs will be held this month to share details about the educational impact of reinvesting in Charles Francis Adams (Clarkston) High School, as well as the facility design and phasing details. The first event is scheduled for this evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Asotin County Fire District #1 building located at 2377 Appleside Blvd. in the Clarkston Heights.

The fair is open to the public and children are welcome.

The second event is scheduled for March 14th at the Quality Inn, 700 Port Drive, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and the third event is scheduled for March 21st at the Valley Boys and Girls Club, 1414 Highland Avenue, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

District patrons will vote on a 25-year Capital Improvements Bond during a Special Election in April. It will require a 60% approval rate to pass.

To vote on the bond, an individual must reside within district boundaries (a map can be found here). Washington State residents can register to vote online; by mail using this form; or in person by visiting the Asotin County Auditor’s Office at 135 2nd Street in Asotin. A current Washington State driver’s license, permit, or ID card is required to register.

Ballots will be mailed on April 8th and the deadline to vote is April 25th.

The proposed $79.4 million bond is expected to cost property owners approximately $2.73 to $3.11 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Previous efforts to modernize Clarkston High School, in 2011 and 2017, would have cost much less at $45 million and $65 million respectively, supporters say.

The proposed new construction would cost an estimated $88.9 million with $9.5 million of that coming from matching funds.

If approved, the project will begin early this winter with the construction of the new classroom spaces on the tennis courts and the western portion of the current football field, according to Yes! CHS. Students would be able to move into the new classroom spaces in the spring of 2027. Demolition of the current building and completion of the site would occur through 2027; the completion of the project is estimated in 2028.
