POMEROY, WA – Garfield County Fire District 1 firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 100 block of 8th Street in Pomeroy at 4:21 p.m. this afternoon.  Upon arrival, they found fire and smoke showing and requested mutual aid from both the City of Clarkston and Asotin County Fire District 1.  One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
“Engine 11 from Garfield County arrived on scene and made entry and knocked down the fire.  In the end the fire was contained to one room of the house.  Fire was controlled at 1730,” GCFD1 Chief James Cleveland says. “Because of the nature of the building there was serious concern that the fire may have spread To the attic.  When the mutual aid units arrived they assisted us in confirming the fire was controlled and assisted our units in packing back up.”
Cleveland says the home was unoccupied and empty at the time of the fire, which is under investigation by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Units from Garfield County were Engine 11, Engine 10, Rescue 6, Brush 1, and Medic 20 for a total of 17 personnel.   Clarkston responded with Engine 81, and Asotin County responded with Engine 62.
