Registration Open For Lewiston Police Department’s 26th Annual Citizens Police Academy

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Police Department is hosting its 26th annual Citizens Police Academy. The academy will start on March 21st and continue through May 30th. This academy is held every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lewiston Police Training Center, 2419 16th Avenue in Lewiston. There is no cost to the student for this academy and all attendees need to be at least 18 years old.

The Citizens Police Academy provides a mechanism for informing the public about the criminal justice system, crime prevention and a means to strengthen the citizen-police partnership in hopes to make the community a safer place to live. The overall goal is to inform citizens so they have a better understanding of police work by explaining the operations, training, procedures, equipment, calls for service and investigations of the Lewiston Police [Department].

The curriculum includes an overview of the police department, enhanced 911 system, station tour, patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, drug enforcement, support services, hiring and recruitment, school resource program, SWAT Team, firearms procedures, along with several other department programs, procedures and basic training. There will be many hands on presentations including firearms familiarization, investigations, operations planning, scenario simulator and a 10 hour Ride-Along with a Lewiston Police officer. Due to the sensitive nature of the material and ride-along, a safety/background check will be completed on all applicants prior to [their] acceptance into the class.

You may pick up an application at the Lewiston Police Department located at 1224 F Street. You may also go to the Lewiston Police Department website and get a copy of the application. All applications need to be hand-delivered or mailed to the Lewiston Police Department at 1224 F Street, Lewiston, Idaho 83501. You may also email an application to rfuentes@cityoflewiston.org. The applications need to be received by March 7th, 2023.
