
CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the second week in a row, four LC State student-athletes garnered Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week honors. Baseball’s Pu’ukani De Sa, women’s basketball’s Callie Stevens, and track and field’s Nikolous Bertling and Jennah Carpenter each earned the accolade for the week of Feb. 6-12.
PU’UKANI DE SA – BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
De Sa was unstoppable at the plate on Tuesday when he went 7-for-9 in a non-traditional doubleheader in Florida against NCCAA Fort Lauderdale and (RV) Warner (Fla.). The junior hit .778 with two double and a home run for a 1.333 slugging percentage. The Hilo, Hawaii, native knocked in four runs and scored four without striking out once.
This is the first weekly award of De Sa’s career.
CALLIE STEVENS – WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Stevens helped the No. 10 Warrior women to a weekend sweep on the road at (RV) Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. The junior averaged 18 points per game with 19 against SOU and 17 at OIT while shooting .481 from the field. Stevens dished a career-high nine assists against Oregon Tech and had three steals at SOU. She totaled 14 assists and four steals over the weekend.
This is the third weekly honor of the season for Stevens and seventh of her career.
NIK BERTLING – MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Bertling broke his own school record in the indoor pole vault when he cleared a height of 4.67m at the Whitworth Invite. The senior won the event at the meet and hit the B standard for nationals.
This is the first weekly honor of Bertling’s career.
JENNAH CARPENTER – WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Carpenter had a busy weekend at the Whitworth Invite with multiple national-qualifying standards. The highlight of the meet for the Lewiston native came with a record-breaking leap in the high jump (1.70m). The sophomore ranks second in the NAIA in the event, and finished with a 3,340 total in the first pentathlon of her career. She placed second at the meet and ranks eighth in the NAIA. Carpenter also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay team that hit the B standard with a time of 3:57.51, which ranks 13th in the NAIA this season.
This is the first weekly honor of Carpenter’s career.
