Nominations Open, Agenda Set For Women’s Leadership Conference

LEWISTON, ID – Three featured speakers highlight the agenda for the 6th Annual Lewis-Clark State College Women’s Leadership Conference on March 3rd; and nominations are now being accepted for the Women in Leadership Awards at the event. The Women’s Leadership Conference runs 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Williams Conference Center on the college campus.

This year’s theme is “Healthy Leadership: Women Finding Balance.” The conference, which is open to everyone regardless of gender, will feature workshops and speakers and provide the opportunity to develop and enhance personal and professional leadership skills.

After registration and a welcome, Stacia Morfin, owner and operator of Nez Perce Tourism, LCC, and Traditions Gift Shop, will give the opening presentation at 8:40 a.m. on “What We Do Together: Through the Lens of Value Based Leadership.”

Following a variety of workshop breakout sessions to choose from at 9:30-10:20 a.m. and 10:30-11:20 a.m., Laynie McClain-Eldridge, president and founder of the Gina Quesenberry Foundation, will give the keynote speech during lunch. Her talk will focus on “How to go from Burnout to Balance.”

Two more workshop breakout sessions will follow at 1:10-2 p.m. and 2:10-3 p.m. At 3:15 p.m., the closing talk will be by Isabelle Penass on “Honoring Personal Experiences to Cultivate Leadership Philosophies.” Penass is the vice president for training and technical assistance for Kauffman and Associates Inc. After closing remarks, there will be an optional yoga class as well as a closing reception at the LC State Center for Arts & History.

The complete agenda can be found on the event’s website. The conference will look at leadership through the lenses of emotional, physical, professional, social, and personal health.

Registration for the event is $35 for the general public and $10 for full-time students. Students need to email LC State history professor Amy Canfield at aecanfield@lcsc.edu to receive a registration promo code prior to registering to receive the discount. Also during lunch, three awards will be presented for leadership. One award goes to an LC State staff/faculty member, one to a community member, and the final one to an LC State student who is a role model to fellow students.

To submit an online nomination of an individual in any of the three categories, visit the event’s website and scroll to the bottom of the page where it says “Nominee Information.” Follow the instructions and include why the person is deserving of the award. The nomination deadline is Feb. 15.

Nominations should reflection people who:

·        Exemplify leadership in their field of expertise

·        Serve as role models and mentors to women and girls

·        Are respected by their peers

·        Give back to the community or their profession through their time and talent

·        Advocate for positive change to help close the leadership gap and create a more equitable society for all

For LC campus nominations, in addition to the criteria above, the nomination must address how the nominee demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Lewis-Clark State College and higher education.
