LEWISTON, ID – A traffic stop last night resulted in the arrest of two Lewiston men. The Idaho State Police stopped a yellow Mini Cooper in North Lewiston for a suspended vehicle registration and while conducting a check of the driver, 60-year-old Steven L. Hassett and passenger, 37-year-old Dillon B. McGarvey, Troopers deployed their drug K9 Bear around the vehicle.

“Allegedly, the drug K9 provided a positive alert on the vehicle. ISP Troopers conducted a search of the vehicle and located multiple suspected smoking pipes, a scale, and a ziplock baggie with approximately 32 grams of suspected methamphetamine near the driver’s seat. While speaking with Mr. Hassett, he willingly emptied his pockets and handed the Trooper a small baggie of approximately 1 gram of suspected methamphetamine. Mr. McGarvey was taken into custody of an active felony arrest warrant. Mr. Hassett was taken into custody for Trafficking in Methamphetamine,” the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office says.

In court today, the Prosecutor’s Office filed felony charges against Hassett.

“The Prosecutor’s Office requested a $50,000 bond because of the lengthy criminal history of Mr. Hassett to include felony convictions for Burglary (1982), Injury to Child (1991), and Felony DUI (2010) as well as multiple misdemeanor convictions. Mr. Hassett was also recently discharged from Parole in 2018. Nez Perce County Magistrate Judge Karin Seubert issued a bond of $35,000,” officials say.
