CLARKSTON, WA – The gangway to the Wawawai Landing boat dock has been removed, rendering the facility unusable until repairs are completed. The Lower Granite Natural Resource Management Office recently inspected the recreation area and determined the gangway needed repairs in order to maintain visitor and staff safety.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Steven Kinzer says over the past several years the gangway has been damaged by driftwood.

Kinzer says they don’t have an estimated time for the repairs to be completed.

The Wawawai Landing area was constructed around the time that Lower Granite Dam was built. The current dock and gangway were installed in the spring of 2006, Kinzer adds.

“The boat ramp will remain open while repairs are performed, but the dock will be inaccessible from land until further notice,” a press release says. “Gangways are used to connect a dock to the shoreline. They provide a walkway over longer distances to allow easier access to a dock.”

Wawawai Landing is located 25 miles west of Clarkston on Highway 193/Wawawai River Road.

Boat launching facilities at Blyton Landing and Nisqually John Landing are still open. For more information, contact the Lower Granite Natural Resource Management Office by calling 509-751-0240 or sending an email to clarkstonnaturalresources@usace.army.mil.
