Outgoing Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra will leave office on January 2nd after falling in November’s General Election.

But she isn’t leaving education altogether. Ybarra will begin teach kindergarten at Stephensen Elementary School on the Mountain Home Air Force Base south of Boise on January 4th.

Before taking office in 2015, Ybarra spent two decades as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and federal programs director for Mountain Home School District. More than half of that time was spent in a third-grade classroom. She and her husband, a federal law enforcement officer and Air Force veteran, still live in Mountain Home.

Debbie Critchfield will begin her duties as the new Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction next month.
