CLARKSTON, WA – The Washington State Patrol focused their efforts to reduce serious injury and fatality collisions, as well as interdict crime, during a “High Visibility Enforcement” (HiVE) patrol this past Saturday. The agency released the final results of the third of four scheduled HiVE patrols today.
“Saturday’s efforts focused in and around the area of Interstate 5 from milepost 178 to 188 between Lynwood and Everett, which WSP data shows has historically seen high volumes of serious injury and fatality collisions. The HiVE patrol was in conjunction with efforts across the state,” a press release states.
The last HiVE patrol for 2022 is scheduled for Saturday, December 31st.
The results from the December 17th HiVE are as follows during the 24-hour saturation patrol:
· Speed stops w/ infractions: 32
· Speed stops w/ warnings: 24
· Aggressive driving w/ infractions: 15
· Aggressive driving w/ warnings: 15
· DUI arrests: 5
· Other moving violations w/ infractions (cell phone, seatbelt, etc.) : 21
· Other moving violations w/ warnings (cell phone, seatbelt, etc.): 42
During the HiVE patrol WSP had a traffic stop for 88 MPH in a post 60 MPH zone. The driver of the vehicle had an ignition interlock device violation, driving with a suspended license, and a warrant. The driver was unable to be booked for the warrant, but charges were referred for the ignition interlock device violation. WSP had an excited delirium pedestrian on Interstate 5 near milepost 182/183 that was walking in the lane of travel and attempted to get into a vehicle. The pedestrian was safely taken into custody and transported to Providence to receive the necessary medical attention.
