CLARKSTON, WA – Clarkston DECA took 56 members to compete against students from 18 schools in the Spokane area, Pullman, and Newport at Spokane Falls Community College on Monday for the annual AREA 11 competition. Thirty-five students qualified to attend the State Career and Development Conference in Bellevue March 2-4. Clarkston DECA will announce the state qualifiers in the project management and school-based enterprise events in early February.

DECA members competed in various events, including food marketing, retail merchandising, sports and entertainment marketing, business law and ethics, travel and tourism, and hospitality. In addition, members present projects, complete role plays, and test their overall business and marketing knowledge and skills.

DECA, an Association of Marketing Students, has designed these competitive events to “enable students to engage in activities that will extend their interests and skills for careers in marketing and measure via performance indicators the degree to which skills have acquired. In effect, the competitive events meet the goals of the marketing education curriculum by demonstrating occupational proficiency in specific areas of marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship.”
