OLYMPIA, WA – Washington State’s Secretary of State, Steve Hobbs, was sworn today as Washington’s 16th Secretary of State. He previously took the oath of office in November of last year when he was appointed to replace Kim Wyman, who took a job as the election security lead for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Hobbs, a Democrat, defeated nonpartisan candidate Julie Anderson in the November General Election.

Hobbs was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu in the State Reception Room on the Capitol Campus in Olympia.

During his speech, Hobbs said his office has accomplished a great deal in the past year, including taking on cyber and misinformation threats to Washington State’s election system.

Hobbs says more needs to be done to stop the threats.

Hobbs says his office also launched a grant program last week for all of the State’s 39 counties to help them enhance their local election security.
