LEWISTON, ID – Registration is open for the next session of the Youth Hunter Education Challenge, a program to help kids improve their hunting marksmanship, safety, and survival skills after they have passed a hunter safety course. The program begins the second week of January and continues through June with 15 sessions. The local YHEC group is sponsored by the Jack O’Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center.

Each session is led by experienced, safety-conscious instructors and builds on skills from basic hunter education courses. In addition to simulated hunting situations and live fire exercises, there will be hands-on training in eight skill areas.

Classroom sessions are held at the Jack O’Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center and cover hunter safety, hunting ethics, equipment, basic first aid and survival skills, game care, map and compass usage, and wildlife identification.

Most field sessions are held at the Lewis Clark Wildlife Club shooting range and will provide experience with archery, shotgun, muzzleloader, and .22 rifle with and without scope.

There is a $25 registration fee. Contact the Center for more information or to register:
