LAPWAI, ID – Nez Perce Tribal Police are close to confirming the identities of the persons involved in making threats toward the Lapwai School District on social media. Late Monday night, police received reports of an individual who posted gun threats. As a precaution, the schools and Lapwai Tribal offices, Housing Authority, and Nimiipuu Health were closed today.

“Nez Perce Tribal Investigators were able to pinpoint and locate the origin of the social media posts corroborating early suspicions of the persons believed to be involved. As a result, multiple interviews have been conducted and although the investigation is still ongoing, it is believed that the Lapwai community is not currently at risk of harm,” a press release states.

Officials are asking people to stay safe and remain vigilant as there is still work that needs to be done to close out this investigation and dismiss the threat risk.

The Nez Perce Tribal offices (Lapwai) will reopen tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
